Finding time to learn guitar has never felt easier

Have you always dreamed of playing guitar, but worry that you’re too old, or too busy,

because you tried a few songs, but can’t quite “get it”?

Maybe you’ve been playing guitar on and off for a bit,

…but struggle with staying on track, and feel like something’s blocking you on your path

I can assure you that you’re not too old, or too young for the guitar.

I’ve worked with students from as young as 3, up to 77, of all different backgrounds, and in different countries.

Many of my students find that, by learning the guitar, their self-confidence improves, they’re able to work through shyness and insecurities, and they discover a whole new love for life.

With a weekly lesson and 10 minutes a day (or less) of practice using proven methods, I’ve helped thousands of students from any experience level learn to play the music that they love, and create a lifelong hobby they can feel proud of.

Are you ready to be met exactly where you’re at,

Learn your favourite songs without judgement, and

Have fun learning guitar, even when it’s challenging?

Troy Serson is an online guitar teacher from Victoria, Canada.

Over the past 13 years, his stress free, student led approach has helped thousands of students as young as 3 to confidently express themselves through the guitar.

Troy studied Classical Guitar at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, and holds Level 9 from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Outside of the formal space, he played in a band for 6 years, and years ago, opened for his favourite band on one of their western Canada tours.

By meeting students where they’re at each week, Troy’s able to teach students of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences the music they love, while making the skill of guitar (that can be challenging) feel fun, light, and easy.

What Students are Saying

I have been taking lessons with Troy for just over a year now, I cannot say enough about what an excellent teacher he is! Engaged, patient and extremely skilled at helping me to improve. I am studying classical guitar and my 13 year old is learning rock/punk guitar with Troy.

The online format is ideal for fitting into our busy week and means that I have been able to fit my lessons in even when out of town for work.

Jeff Bishop

Troy's an excellent teacher, is super nice and an all around enjoyable person. I'm a slow learner, impatient, and I yell at myself and my guitar A LOT in front of him and he makes it easy to recover and keep pushing forward.

He's also helped me overcome most of my shyness which really holds me back. If my daughter expresses an interest in music in the future I'd be overjoyed to have her working with him too.

  • For the material being taught, most students prefer nylon string guitars, but any guitar will work great. It’s strongly recommended that you have something to hold the guitar in place (such as a strap, or a foot stool), and a tuner that you’re familiar with for the classes.

  • Upon sign up, I’ll set up a personalized doc for your homework notes. If you have questions, you’ll be able to comment on it, which sends me a text and email so I can reply with support and added notes in between lessons.

  • You do not need to know how to play guitar before signing up. You can come in brand new to the instrument, not even sure how to hold it correctly or how to tune it, and I will get you playing the instrument beautifully.

  • Students who miss lessons for any reason will be given a make up credit that they can use to rebook their lesson (subject to availability). Makeup credits expire 30 days after the missed lesson.
